School Overview
Lancaster Primary Schoolis a small school located 8 kilometres east of Kyabram. The school is set in a pleasant rural setting within a dairy farming and horticultural area. As the school was established in 1876, many of the families have historical links with the school. The school community strenuously seeks to maintain the traditions of the school and actively promotes the school in order to ensure the future of Lancaster Primary School. The school is acutely aware that it plays an important role in the education of its’ students, and it also recognises that parents and the community play an equally important role. Parent participation is encouraged through an active and inclusive School Council, a fundraising committee, working bees, family nights, parent participation days and extended curriculum activities. The School Council has an active membership of 15. Each year our school community has the opportunity to participate in a family excursion. In 2007our families went to the Melbourne Zoo and in 2008 our families went to the Geelong Adventure Park.
The school currently has an enrolment of 37 students attending Lancaster Primary School, encompassing 26 families. Over the past 4 years there had been a slight increase in enrolments. The school provides a variety of extra curricular activities for students and the wider community, including the Active After School Program, Playgroup, Parents’ Support Group, Community Market and a comprehensive transition program from Kinder to Prep, and Grade 6 to Year 7.
During 2007 a new classroom was built with funds obtained through the Federal Government’s Investing In Our Schools Programme. New furniture was also purchased from funds from the same initiative. New relocatable toilets were also a recent addition to the school in 2007. The school was successful in obtaining funds from the Federal Government’s Local Answers Project, which enabled a Playgroup and Parents’ Support Group to be set up at the school to support members of the local community. In 2008, we received funding from the Commonwealth’s Green Vouchers program, which was used to replace our water tanks and pumps around the school.
Lancaster Primary School achieved accreditation in 2007 in the Performance and Development Culture initiative. The school also underwent the Self Assessment and Review process, and developed a four year Strategic Plan, for the first time.
